Description
Verstegen pink pepper berries are the whole, dried berries of the pepper tree. Known for having a fruity and mildly spicy flavour, pink pepper berries are often used to add flavour and colour to dishes where black pepper would be too overpowering.
Verstegen Pink Pepper Berries taste much brighter and fruitier than traditional pepper. It has floral notes reminiscent of roses, as well as hints of citrus and pine. While they offer a peppery sensation, they do not contain the piperine compound found in true peppercorns, so they lack the intense heat. The gentle warmth they provide is more similar to mild chilis than black pepper.
Unlike black pepper, pink peppercorns have a subtle sweetness that makes them versatile enough for both sweet and savoury dishes.
- In savoury dishes: They are excellent with seafood, poultry, salads, and butter-based sauces.
- In sweet dishes: The fruity flavour pairs well with desserts, particularly chocolate, goat cheese, or fruits like strawberries and pineapple.
- In a pepper blend: Mixed with black, white, and green peppercorns, it creates a four-seasons blend. This gives a milder, more aesthetic dimension.
